Hanta Virus [HantaVirus: Another killer bio-weapon emerging out of China?]

In the mean time when Corona virus Or COVID-19 spreading its legs in the whole world, on 24th March China reported again for a new kind of infectious disease caused by rodents mainly house rats and mice carrying brand new Hanta Virus.

So exactly what is Hanta Virus?

According to CDC portal, Hantavirus causes a severe Pulmonary syndrome known as HPS or Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome. This is a disease which is rare but is fatal respiratory disease caused by the rodents carrying The HantaVirus.

Anyone who comes into contact with rodents that carry hantaviruses is at risk of HPS. Rodent infestation in and around the home remains the primary risk for hantavirus exposure. Even healthy individuals are at risk for HPS infection if exposed to the virus.

To date, no cases of HPS have been reported in the India in which the virus was transmitted from one person to another. In fact, in a study of health care workers who were exposed to either patients or specimens infected with related types of hantaviruses (which cause a different disease in humans), none of the workers showed evidence of infection or illness.

Is A Hantavirus Pandemic Possible?

Unlike COVID-19, the hantavirus cannot spread from person to person. This makes it very difficult to spread the virus far from the point of an original infection.
Instead of human spread, rodents are the main culprits in these cases, as explained by the medical experts.
So we can be assured for this that a pandemic is not possible because of it, at least for now.
But be safe from rodents, nobody knows that next is yours turn.
